In recent visits to Australian Paper’s Burnie Paper Mill, home of ENVI Carbon Neutral paper, Tasmania’s Premier, David Bartlett, acknowledged cutting edge Tasmanian innovation that has produced Australia’s first carbon neutral paper certified by the Australian Government.
Premier Bartlett said:
“Australian Paper has recognised the need to respond to global environmental challenges in producing the ENVI range.
“In doing so, the company has seized an opportunity presented by climate change for innovative products that set new environmental standards.
“It is this sort of innovation that will turn the challenge of climate change into one of the economic drivers for Tasmania over the next decade and beyond.”
Mr Bartlett said the State Government wanted to support Tasmanian innovation at every opportunity. “I encourage every Tasmanian business to take up the challenge of reducing their carbon footprint and Australian Paper is to be congratulated on producing a local option.
“By producing products that environmentally-conscious consumers increasingly demand, Tasmanian businesses can lead the way on climate change and help secure their long-term future.
Mr Bartlett said whilst it would be inappropriate for him to favour one product or supplier over another, he was confident that State Government agencies would seriously consider the local carbon-neutral paper option in their forward purchasing plans.
“Climate change considerations are increasingly a component of purchasing considerations by the state service and I am confident this new, locally-made carbon-neutral paper option will receive fair and open consideration across the range of factors that contribute to agencies’ spending decisions,” Mr Bartlett said.
On 15th July, 2009 the Hon Mr. Stephen Smith MP, Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs, launched the new N Series passport printed on Australian made ENVI carbon neutral paper.
“The N Series passport represents not just the Australian Government’s commitment to provide its citizens with a travel document which is secure, but one which demonstrates our determination to be responsible environmental managers” said The Hon Stephen Smith MP, Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs.
